A major survey of the New Realism (Nouveau Réalisme) movement—of which Arman was a founding member—will be on view in Paris and Hanover, Germany for much of 2007 and early 2008. Co-produced by France’s Réunion des Musées Nationaux, the Centre Pompidou and the Sprengel Museum in Hanover, the exhibition will be on view at the Galeries nationales du Grand Palais in Paris from March 28th through July 2nd, 2007, then at the Sprengel Museum from September 19th, 2007 through January 27th, 2008.

The first show devoted to this important movement in over 20 years, the exhibition showcases the vitality of the New Realists through the reconstitution of some installations and a thematic and historical context that explores the movement’s members’ shared sense of adventure. Focusing on brief decade—from 1958 to 1969, the time of its group shows—the exhibition celebrates an extremely dense and lively period which was later obscured by the artists’ individual careers. Among some 200 works on display, many significant works by Arman will be included.
